The Presidential Delegate for the Biobío region, Eduardo Pacheco, distanced himself from the statements of his counterpart in Araucanía, who earlier this week suggested the possibility of dialogue with the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM).

Through a statement, the Presidential Delegate of Araucanía, Eduardo Abdala, had to clarify his remarks regarding potential dialogue with the Arauco Malleco Coordinator.

However, when his counterpart in Biobío, Eduardo Pacheco, was asked about the matter, he stated that Carabineros, the PDI, and the Armed Forces have the full support of the Government amid the state of exception still in effect for the provinces of Biobío and Arauco.

Additionally, he emphasized that any dialogue must occur through official channels and not through violence. "Dialogue happens through the Good Living Plan, through all the work of the Peace and Understanding Commission, and not with organizations that seek to impose violence and crime in the province of Arauco. That message is very clear. With organizations that promote violence and crime, no dialogue is possible, and we continue to safeguard the residents of the provinces under the state of exception—Biobío and Arauco," he stressed.

When asked about the possibility of de-escalating the state of exception in the two provinces of the region where it remains in place, he indicated that they must wait and that decisions will be communicated when made.

Nevertheless, he added that, regardless of whether violent incidents decrease, they cannot let their guard down. "Today, when there is any update regarding progress or how the states of exception will continue to unfold, we will inform you. What’s important now is that violent incidents have decreased, but the message is also very clear—and we’ve discussed this with the head of National Defense, the police, and our delegates in both provinces—we cannot lower our guard. We must remain very vigilant," he stated.

It is worth recalling that Interior Minister Carolina Tohá has been asked multiple times about the possibility of de-escalating the state of exception in Araucanía and the provinces of Biobío and Arauco, but so far, it has been ruled out—especially after the murder of the three Carabineros in Cañete on April 27.
