Anti-crime drone: three arrested for wood theft in Mulchén
- CMPC's aerial surveillance technology leads to the arrest of individuals caught in the act of stealing wood from forest properties.
In an operation highlighting the use of advanced technology in forest property surveillance, a drone owned by CMPC played a key role in detecting and subsequently arresting three individuals involved in wood theft in the commune of Mulchén, Biobío region. The incidents, which occurred at different locations in the area, resulted in the seizure of vehicles and tools used in the illegal activity.
The first incident was recorded at kilometer 558 of Route 5, where the CMPC drone, operated by the company's security personnel, spotted a man loading acacia wood chips into a green pickup truck. After an alert was sent to emergency number 133, officers from the 2nd Mulchén Police Station arrived at the scene, confirming the crime and arresting the individual, identified as J.A.C.U., aged 60.
A few hours later, a second similar event was detected by the same aerial means at kilometer 35 of Route Q-95, in the El Cisne sector. This time, two men were caught loading wood into a white pickup truck. The swift police action led to the arrest of the individuals, F.I.B.S. and A.A.D.P., aged 63 and 28, respectively.
Major Cristian Morales, commissioner of the 2nd Mulchén Carabineros Police Station, emphasized the effectiveness of the collaboration between surveillance technology and security forces, which resulted in the capture of the three men, now awaiting their detention control hearing.
The intervention not only underscores the issue of wood theft in the region but also demonstrates the potential of drones as tools for crime prevention and response in rural areas.
