Prosecutor Roberto Garrido to Lead Investigation into Triple Homicide of Police Officers in Cañete
The renowned prosecutor of La Araucanía takes charge of the case that has shaken southern Chile, with the support of National Prosecutor Ángel Valencia.
Following the tragic incident that claimed the lives of three police officers in Cañete during the early hours of Saturday, prosecutor Roberto Garrido was appointed to lead the investigation.
Garrido, who is the chief prosecutor of the La Araucanía Region and known for his work on cases related to the Mapuche cause, including the arrest of Héctor Llaitul, will oversee a multi-regional team of investigators.
National Prosecutor Ángel Valencia announced the decision this Monday at the Biobío Regional Prosecutor's Office, where a monthly meeting was held to analyze rural violence in the area.
Valencia emphasized the importance of teamwork and the need to properly distribute workloads due to the high demand for cases in the region, including drug trafficking, forest fires, and other serious crimes.
Garrido's appointment aims to strengthen the judicial response to a high-impact and complex attack. The national prosecutor highlighted the additional challenges faced by prosecutors in the region, such as transportation and connectivity issues, which make investigating these events even more challenging.
In the coming hours, Prosecutor Garrido is expected to provide details about the initial investigative steps in response to this tragic event that has shocked the community and the country's security forces.
