Regional Rural and Forest Security Board Ensures Decrease in Violence Cases in Los Ríos
- Authorities report a significant reduction in rural violence and timber theft due to the security strategy implemented in the region.
The Regional Rural and Forest Security Board of Los Ríos reported a notable decrease in rural violence cases in the territory. During the latest session, attended by high-ranking officials from Carabineros, the PDI, and representatives from forestry and agricultural associations, the positive results of the implemented security strategies were highlighted.
General Patricio Faunes, Carabineros' zone chief, reported that rural violence has decreased by 90% compared to the previous year, dropping from 32 investigated cases to just three this year. This improvement is attributed to a change in checkpoint strategies and increased police presence on regional routes.
Meanwhile, PDI Valdivia's provincial prefect, Harold Mackay, emphasized his institution's work in combating timber theft, with 118 arrests and the seizure of numerous means used to commit this crime during 2023.
Regional prosecutor Tatiana Esquivel stressed the importance of the Security Board in strengthening community alliances and improving responses to rural violence crimes. In turn, Carlos Oettinger from Forestal Arauco valued the initiative as an opportunity to address security concerns affecting productive sectors.
The government's commitment to continue reinforcing these security measures was one of the key conclusions of the meeting, which will be held every two months to further address rural violence and associated crimes.
