  • The individuals were caught in the act of stealing wood from a forestry property, thanks to the swift action of the PDI and a report from the affected company.

The Investigative Police (PDI) of Angol, La Araucanía Region, successfully arrested two individuals in flagrante delicto involved in the illegal logging and theft of eucalyptus wood. The operation took place in the Maitenrehue sector, on a property owned by Forestal Mininco, after being alerted by the company's guards.

Subprefect Héctor Aedo, head of the Criminal Investigation Brigade (Bicrim) of Angol, reported that PDI personnel quickly mobilized to the indicated location, where an operation was set up that culminated in the interception of a van loaded with the stolen wood. The vehicle, which was heading toward the city of Angol, was stopped on the road, and inside, authorities found cut wood and a chainsaw.

The value of the stolen wood was estimated at 3 million pesos. Both the wood and the vehicle used in the crime were seized by authorities. The detainees were informed of their rights, and the case details were submitted to the Flagrancy Prosecutor of La Araucanía Region.

The on-duty prosecutor ordered that the suspects be made available to the Angol Guarantee Court for the corresponding arraignment hearing, scheduled for Saturday, June 29.

This incident highlights the importance of surveillance and swift police action in protecting natural resources and private property. Illegal logging poses a significant threat to ecosystems and the local economy, and it is a crime that Chilean authorities continue to combat firmly.
