  • Public Ministry investigates possible retaliation after suspect's arrest, in an attack that left two trucks burned.

The Public Ministry is investigating a possible link between the arrest of a man and the arson attack that resulted in the destruction of two trucks this morning in Collipulli, La Araucanía region. The attack, which left a Mapuche flag as evidence, could be a response to the recent apprehension of José Leandro Lizama Torres, who was arrested for a series of crimes, including drug trafficking and arson attacks.

The incident took place on Route 5 South, where the perpetrators left a flag with a message demanding the release of "Mapuche political prisoners," explicitly mentioning Lizama Torres. The arrest of this individual was carried out by the Investigative Police (PDI) in the community of Chequenco in Ercilla, after being linked to various vehicle thefts in the province of Malleco and other serious crimes.

Subprefect Rodrigo Briones, head of the PDI's Robbery Investigation Brigade in Angol, emphasized that Lizama Torres' identification was achieved through the investigation of the thefts, which in turn revealed his involvement in other criminal acts, including possibly the homicide of a farmer in the region.

Lizama Torres will remain detained until tomorrow, when the Public Ministry is expected to formally charge him. Meanwhile, the presidential delegate of La Araucanía, José Montalva, announced that the government will file a lawsuit for the arson attack, seeking the maximum possible penalty for those responsible.

Additionally, the presidential delegate of La Araucanía, José Montalva, announced that the government will file a lawsuit for the arson attack in Collipulli.
