Timber Theft Ring Dismantled in Angol: Four Arrested
- Police operation at Fundo San Luis concludes with the capture of suspects and the seizure of vehicles and timber.
In a successful operation, Carabineros from the First Police Station of Angol and Public Order Control (COP) officers arrested four individuals involved in timber theft. The operation took place at Fundo San Luis, located in the El Parque sector of the Angol commune, following a report to the Malleco Communications Center (CENCO).
The events unfolded during the evening-night of Thursday, July 11, when police were alerted about the presence of two white pickup trucks and four individuals illegally cutting down trees. Upon arrival, the officers spoke with the security guard of Forestal Mininco, who had been monitoring the situation using a drone.
During the operation, two vehicles—a Toyota LUV and a Toyota Hilux—were inspected, both loaded with two cubic meters of cypress firewood. The individuals, unable to justify the origin of the timber, were arrested. Additionally, their vehicles, the firewood, and three chainsaws were seized. The detainees have been placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office to proceed with further investigations.
This incident highlights the importance of surveillance and the swift action of law enforcement to combat natural resource theft, a crime that severely impacts the forestry sector and the environment.
