Suspect in Arson Attack in Los Angeles Captured
- Operation in Lumaco ends with the arrest of a fugitive linked to the CAM and wanted for an attack on forestry trucks.
During a vehicle checkpoint in the commune of Lumaco, Carabineros from the Third Police Station of Traiguén captured J.M.M., a 34-year-old man with an active arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in an arson attack in Los Angeles. The operation is part of the preventive measures being carried out in the province of Malleco.
On September 9, 2021, a forestry estate near Los Saltos del Laja was the scene of a violent attack where armed individuals, allegedly linked to the Arauco Malleco Coordinating Group (CAM), set trucks on fire and intimidated workers. The apprehended suspect, identified only by his initials, attempted to flee when approached by security forces but was quickly subdued and arrested.
Commander César Leiva, sub-prefect of the Malleco Prefecture services, confirmed the identity of the detainee and his connection to the attack. J.M.M. had been a fugitive for two years and is under investigation for his ties to the CAM. Others involved in the same incident, including Ernesto Llaitul Pezoa, son of the CAM leader, are already facing legal proceedings.
This arrest represents a significant step forward in the fight against acts of violence that have affected the forestry industry in the region. Authorities continue their investigations to fully clarify the events and bring all those involved in the attack to justice.
