  • For the forestry contractors' association, the Executive Branch should promote "intelligence projects targeting these groups."

The presidential delegate of La Araucanía, José Montalva, highlighted a 42% decrease in rural violence incidents in the region compared to the same period in 2023, though he acknowledged that other crimes linked to terrorist organizations remain common.

"Certain incidents fluctuate in the region, but we know that the possibility of success, from an investigative and preventive standpoint, depends on coordination to dismantle organizations that use illegal businesses to fund violence in the region—and that’s what we’re working on," assured the regional authority.

Nevertheless, he emphasized that "the decline in violent incidents in the region continues: we have 42% fewer compared to 2023."

Montalva made these statements just days after two arson attacks in the communes of Collipulli and Padre las Casas left a total of three forestry machines damaged.

"We fully agree with the regional delegate’s remarks, given that the terrorist groups operating in the Southern Macrozone are indeed still active," stated René Muñoz, president of the Association of Forestry Contractors.

In this regard, the union leader noted that this scenario "undoubtedly requires another action from the State: anticipation, prevention, and intelligence. So, we believe the next step is to work on intelligence projects targeting these groups."
