  • A truck belonging to the forestry company Quilaco SpA was set on fire by hooded individuals on Route S-40, causing traffic congestion and an intense police investigation. The CAM claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a new act of violence shaking the La Araucanía region, a truck was set on fire in the early hours of this Friday on the route connecting Nueva Imperial with Carahue. The attack occurred around 06:00 when three hooded and armed individuals forced the driver to stop before setting the vehicle ablaze.

The truck, owned by the forestry company Quilaco SpA from Tirúa, was transporting lumber at the time of the incident. The attackers, after intimidating the driver with firearms, poured an accelerant over the cabin and set it on fire, completely destroying it.

The incident caused significant traffic congestion on the well-known Route S-40, forcing Carabineros to implement detours and seek alternate routes for drivers stuck in the "traffic jam." The situation raised alarm among road users and local residents.

The First Response Prosecutor's Office has ordered specialized Carabineros personnel to arrive at the scene to begin the investigation and gather evidence to identify and capture those responsible for this attack. So far, no arrests have been reported, and no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

This incident adds to a series of violent acts that have affected the region in recent times, highlighting the existing tension and the need to find solutions that ensure safety and peaceful coexistence.

The community and local authorities expect quick and effective responses to prevent future attacks that threaten the safety and free movement of people and goods along this important artery in the La Araucanía region.

The ORT Lafkenche-Leftraru, part of the Arauco Malleco Coordinating Group (CAM), claimed responsibility for the arson attack.

"With Toño Marchant (a CAM member killed by Carabineros) in the memory of those who continue on the path of weichan. Fighting, we remember and honor your dignified journey through our Wallmapu," they concluded.
