  • One of the key focuses of the guild's management is promoting innovative and sustainable construction methods while maintaining the same quality. Since this year, it has been part of the Biobío Madera Executive Committee, aiming to highlight the advantages of the province.

The forestry capital of Chile. This is how Los Ángeles introduces itself to visitors entering the city from the north. The claim is not arbitrary: Alongside agriculture, the forestry industry is the main economic activity of the commune. Proof of this is that one of the country's largest companies in the sector, CMPC, chose precisely the northern entrance to build its most modern facility.

Boosting wood construction, especially in an area that produces the largest amount of this material in Chile, is one of the objectives of the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC) Los Ángeles.

This was announced by the guild itself, emphasizing the numerous benefits, including environmental contributions through CO2 capture, resource renewal, high thermal insulation capacity, and versatile applications in building design. "That’s why the guild seeks to promote the use of wood in construction, particularly in an area strongly identified with the material."

"We have a significant challenge. As a regional chamber, we have chosen to promote wood construction. It is a material with multiple benefits that contributes to the industry's sustainability and reduces its carbon footprint. It is the only material that, even when combined with others in hybrid structures, will allow us to meet the goals of ECLP 20250, meaning zero emissions in our industry," said Mario Zerega, president of CChC Los Ángeles.

"If we also manage to integrate it with industrialization, we will advance the development of our territory and the quality of life of its inhabitants," he added.

MODERN CONSTRUCTION METHODS
Although not strictly new, wood construction methods are classified as "modern" because they are applied from an industrialized perspective, with components built off-site and assembled on location.

This improves building quality by reducing delivery times, minimizing waste, lowering accident risks, and helping bridge the productivity gap in the construction industry, among other benefits.

"As a Chamber, we are encouraging construction companies to use more wood due to its benefits. Since this year, we have participated in the Executive Committee of Corfo’s Regional Strategic Program (PER), which shares the same goal. We are committed to a prospecting mission to Europe, allowing member companies to learn and overcome technological gaps and challenges in this development, especially in high-rise buildings. All this will ultimately drive change not only in the construction industry but also boost our province," stated Mario Zerega.
