Suspects Arrested in Triple Homicide of Carabineros in Cañete
- In a nighttime operation, police captured the alleged perpetrators of the murder of three Carabineros in the Biobío region.
The early hours of this Monday marked a turning point in the case that shocked the commune of Cañete, following the arrest of three individuals accused of being involved in the homicide of three Carabineros officers. Sergeant Carlos Cisterna and Corporals Sergio Arévalo and Misael Vidal lost their lives during a routine procedure on April 27, an event that has caused deep dismay in the province of Arauco and across Chile.
Authorities reported that the arrests were made possible through simultaneous operations carried out in the Antiquina sector of Cañete and in the commune of Huechuraba, in the Metropolitan Region. The Prosecutor's Office has confirmed the alleged responsibility of the detainees in the crime that took the lives of the three Carabineros, who at the time were responding to a call to review the precautionary measures of Carlos Antihuen Riquelme.
The regional prosecutor of La Araucanía, Roberto Garrido, who took charge of the investigation in early May, has emphasized the importance of these arrests for clarifying the facts and delivering justice to the victims' families. The community of Cañete and its surroundings hopes these arrests mark the beginning of the end of a period of violence that has overshadowed the region.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further details about the progress of the case and the exact role the detainees allegedly played in the tragic incident are expected in the coming days. Meanwhile, the Biobío Region remains on alert, awaiting definitive answers.
