Armed confrontation in Temucuicui: security forces patrol comes under gunfire
- A joint patrol by the Army and Carabineros in the Autonomous Community of Temucuicui, La Araucanía, ended in a violent exchange of gunfire.
In a tense episode that reflects the complexity of the security situation in the La Araucanía Region, a joint patrol by the Army and Carabineros was met with gunfire in the Autonomous Community of Temucuicui. The incident, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. this Tuesday, took place under the State of Exception currently in effect in the area.
According to reports, the confrontation erupted when a group of Army personnel attempted to enter the Fundo Alaska and encountered barricades of felled trees, allegedly set up by unknown individuals to block the passage of armored vehicles. Carabineros arrived to support clearing the obstruction, but as they withdrew, they became involved in an exchange of gunfire that resulted in a projectile striking one of the police vehicles.
The regional presidential delegate of La Araucanía, José Montalva, confirmed the incident and announced that a complaint has been filed with the Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate the event. Montalva assured that patrols will be intensified in the most conflictive and isolated areas of the region.
Despite the severity of the confrontation, no injuries were reported among the uniformed personnel or the attackers. This attack occurs amid heightened tensions, highlighted by the government's inability to conduct the 2024 Census in the community, which has drawn criticism from the opposition regarding the presence and authority of the State in certain areas of the country.
