Isidora Cousiño Park: Native Trees Affected by Frontal System to Be Reforested
- Due to the recent frontal system, damage occurred in other venues under the Lota Heritage Circuit, such as the facades of the so-called Pueblito Minero.
The Lota Heritage, Culture, and Tourism Board, Fundación Cepas, and the Technical Professional Wood High School of Coronel in the Bío Bío region are coordinating reforestation efforts for native trees to ensure the conservation of the forest in Isidora Cousiño Park.
This is because, due to the frontal system at the beginning of the month, 22 native trees were damaged inside the National Monument.
Therefore, work is underway to plant these species by next September, said Elizabeth Aguilera, president of the group that brings together various social organizations working with heritage in the municipality.
Due to the recent frontal system, damage occurred in other venues under the Lota Heritage Circuit, such as the facades of the so-called Pueblito Minero, said Pamela Uriarte, executive director of the Center for Education and Promotion of Solidarity Action Foundation.
However, work at the Mina Chiflón del Diablo was unaffected despite the sinkhole that occurred last June.
Meanwhile, Paloma Zúñiga, the Regional Minister of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage in Bío Bío, praised the cohesion among the various organizations and stated that they will continue efforts for the municipality to be declared a World Heritage Site.
In turn, an update on the reopening of the places affected by the recent frontal system is expected next week.
Finally, reforestation work in Lota Park will begin next September.
