Agricultural and forestry exports grew by 8.9% in January-July 2024

  • China remains the top destination for agricultural and forestry exports, reaching US$4,105 million, an 11% increase compared to January-July 2023.

The Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa) reported that agricultural and forestry exports grew by 8.9% in January-July 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, totaling US$12,197 million.

In January-July 2024, China was the main destination for agricultural and forestry shipments, reaching US$4,105 million, an 11% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The United States followed, with US$2,396 million, a 10% increase in the mentioned period. Other key markets, in order of importance, were Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, South Korea, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Colombia, and Canada.

In January-July 2024, agricultural shipments reached US$8,174 million, a 9.5% increase. Meanwhile, livestock shipments totaled US$961 million, growing by 3.6%. Forestry exports recorded US$3,062 million, an 8.8% rise. All variations are compared to the same period in 2023.

Odepa’s director, Andrea García, stated that "these figures confirm that 2024 has been a year of market recovery and economic growth."

In January-July 2024, the main exported products were fresh and dried fruits; pulp; wines and spirits; processed fruits; manufactured wood; meats and byproducts; sawn wood; wood chips; seeds for planting; dairy products; processed vegetables; fresh vegetables; flowers, bulbs, tubers, and plants; honey.

The agricultural and forestry trade balance was positive, with a 17.7% increase in January-July 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, reaching US$7,311 million. Sectoral imports amounted to US$4,886 million, a 2.2% decrease in the period.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Agriculture leads the Sustainable Agro-Export Competitiveness Agenda, which aims to strengthen the positioning of Chile's agricultural sector in international markets in terms of image, quality, safety, and with a special emphasis on sustainable production.
