  • A Chilean citizen was caught in the act of illegal logging and timber theft on a property owned by the forestry company Mininco, thanks to the swift action of the PDI.

Chile's Investigative Police (PDI) put an end to an illegal logging and timber theft operation in the commune of Renaico. The incident, which took place in the El Almendro sector, resulted in the arrest of an adult male, who was caught in the midst of illicit activity on a property owned by the forestry company Mininco.

Subprefect Héctor Aedo, head of the Criminal Investigation Brigade (Bicrim) of Angol, reported that the arrest occurred after receiving a phone alert from forestry personnel. The call warned about the presence of a pickup truck and two individuals illegally cutting down eucalyptus trees. "For this reason, on-duty personnel from the Brigade immediately arrived at the scene, deploying an operation in the area to locate the subjects who fled the forestry property," explained Aedo.

The police operation led to the location of one of the suspects, along with the vehicle allegedly used to transport the stolen timber. The second individual involved managed to escape and is currently at large.

The details of the incident have been forwarded to the Prosecutor's Office, which has ordered the detainee to be presented before the Angol Guarantee Court for the corresponding hearing and determination of appropriate precautionary measures.
This event highlights the ongoing fight against illegal logging in Chile, a country facing significant challenges in protecting its forest resources.

The swift response by authorities in this case underscores the PDI's commitment to environmental preservation and private property protection.
