Pulp industry to invest over US$19 billion by 2028 in Brazil
- Among the projects in the portfolio is Arauco's new pulp mill in Inocência (MS), with an investment of US$4.5 billion.
The Brazilian forestry industry, which includes pulp, paper, and wood panel producers, has announced investments totaling around US$19 billion by 2028, according to the project portfolio presented by the Brazilian Tree Industry (Ibá).
According to the organization, the funds will focus on building new factories, expanding existing operational units, and infrastructure projects to increase production.
"These are investments made in regions that, as a rule, have little economic dynamism. And the cultivated forests were implemented in recent years, replacing degraded areas, usually unproductive pastures," said Ibá's executive president, Paulo Hartung.
Among the projects in the portfolio are Arauco's new pulp mill in Inocência (MS), with an investment of US$4.5 billion, and the unit in Ribas do Rio Pardo (MS), which began operations in July after a US$4 billion investment.
Chilean company CMPC also plans to build a new pulp mill in Brazil, with a US$4.5 billion investment in Barra do Ribeiro (RS). Additionally, the expansion of Eldorado in Três Lagoas (MS), already announced but potentially affected by the conflict between partners J&F Investimentos and Paper Excellence, will generate another US$4.5 billion in investments.
The sector's portfolio also highlights Bracell's investment of nearly US$1 billion in Lençóis Paulista (SP), including a new tissue plant already in operation, and the US$291 million invested in a new corrugated cardboard box factory in Piracicaba (SP), a unit that is already operational.
