  • A police operation culminated in the seizure of a truck loaded with illegally obtained wood and the arrest of one individual.

In a successful operation carried out by the Investigative Police (PDI) in Pitrufquén, authorities recovered a truck transporting stolen wood, with an estimated value exceeding 45 million pesos. The police action, executed by the local Criminal Investigation Brigade (Bicrim), led to the arrest of a suspect involved in the theft of wood in the Ex Fundo California area.

Commissioner Alex Cofré, head of Bicrim Pitrufquén, reported that after a series of investigative procedures in response to prior complaints of logging and wood theft in Fundo California, a Chilean adult citizen was arrested while transporting 64 pieces of radiata pine, aged between 18 and 20 years. The individual lacked the required documentation to prove the legality of the cargo.

"The suspect was arrested, and the wood was seized, along with the truck and self-loading trailer, with the total appraisal of the items reaching 45 million pesos," stated Commissioner Jara. The swift intervention by Bicrim not only ensured the recovery of the wood but also the confiscation of the transportation means used in the illegal activity.

The detainee has been placed at the disposal of the Pitrufquén Guarantee Court, where a 60-day investigation period has been set. Meanwhile, the suspect has been placed under the precautionary measure of national confinement, restricting their freedom to leave the country while investigations continue.

This operation represents a significant blow against illegal timber trafficking, an issue that threatens forest sustainability and the local economy. The PDI continues to work closely with communities and authorities to combat such crimes and protect the region's natural resources.
