  • The individuals were apprehended after stealing timber from a property in Los Mayos, facing precautionary measures and national confinement.

In a nighttime operation, two individuals were arrested in the commune of Santa Bárbara, accused of stealing timber from a private property in the Los Mayos sector. The incident concluded with the capture of the suspects, who had loaded 12 pieces of Acacia wood into their truck, with an estimated value of $180,000 pesos.

The detainees, residents of the same sector, were presented to the Santa Bárbara Guarantee Court on Monday, where they were issued the precautionary measure of national confinement, and a three-month period was established for the investigation of the case.

This event occurs in a context where the Regional Presidential Delegation reported a significant decrease in crimes related to timber theft. During a session of the Regional Council Against Organized Crime, the acting regional presidential delegate, Humberto Toro, stated that the Biobío region has experienced a 37% drop in these types of crimes.

Timber theft, along with truck and cable theft, has been identified as one of the three critical crimes in the region. However, current figures show a downward trend in the occurrence of these crimes, with a 23% reduction in truck theft and over a 20% decrease in cable theft compared to the previous year.

Authorities continue to work together to combat organized crime and improve security in the region, emphasizing the importance of interagency collaboration and the implementation of effective strategies to prevent and penalize these crimes.
