  • Victor Ramos emphasized that August is a key month to establish the final dialogues.

With the deadline set by President Boric to deliver the report with the conclusions of the Commission for Peace and Understanding approaching this November, its executive secretary, Victor Ramos, discussed the process and noted that August is a decisive phase to generate these dialogues.

"It must be capable of producing agreements viable for the State, legitimate for the Mapuche people, and accepted by private individuals," stated the psychologist and master in public policies in an interview with Radio Pauta.

He explained that "throughout this year, we committed to being in all four regions to verify and construct a narrative for the commission itself from the perspective of the stakeholders—those who live the problem, the communities and their historical drama, their historical discrimination, their historical dispossession, but also the new victims created by violence, the injustice of being caught in a conflict they did not create," Ramos detailed.

He stressed that August is a crucial month because "we are entering a decisive phase; it is the last month to generate dialogues. What we have seen in all seven dialogues we have conducted across the four regions is that there is a willingness among all stakeholders to reach an agreement."

"After the cowardly murder of the carabineros in Cañete, the following Saturday, we held an intercultural dialogue in Temuco with over 100 people—communities, victims of violence... We did it with even greater conviction because we believe it is necessary to sustain a dialogue process despite varying circumstances. The commission has been resilient in this regard; we have endured a constitutional process, different electoral tensions among political parties, and we are convinced this is the right path. What we see is that the stakeholders in the region are extremely valuable," Ramos stated.

Recall that one of the commission's objectives is to systematize the current and historical situation of Mapuche lands and review international experiences; establish a dialogue channel with various involved stakeholders; and draft a proposal with changes to reach an agreement on land demands with all regional political and social stakeholders, among others.
