Coyhaique Leads Sustainability with New Clean Production Agreement
- The alliance between the public and private sectors in Coyhaique aims to conserve native forests through sustainable forest management.
In a significant milestone for environmental conservation and sustainable development, Coyhaique has taken a step forward by initiating the negotiation process for the Clean Production Agreement (APL), focused on the management of native forests.
This agreement, launched on September 10, represents a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors to establish an action framework that protects natural ecosystems and promotes responsible forest management.
The negotiation meeting, supported by the Agency for Sustainability and Climate Change (ASCC), focused on defining clear responsibilities, goals, and deadlines, following Chilean regulations. The consensus reached underscores the importance of forest management as a key strategy to ensure the sustainability of forest resources, biodiversity conservation, and strengthening the economic competitiveness of the sector.
The regional director of Conaf, Ronald Valenzuela, highlighted the APL as an opportunity to promote sustainable forest management in the region. "We are very pleased with the performance of our team and the active participation of landowners in this public-private initiative," Valenzuela stated.
Meanwhile, Sebastián Carvallo, deputy director of Sustainable Production at ASCC, emphasized that the APL will encourage the implementation of management plans with forest management criteria. "The enthusiasm of landowners and public services is evident, and this agreement stands as a great opportunity for the region," Carvallo affirmed, inviting more landowners to join the initiative.
The APL in Coyhaique is projected as a model to follow in the responsible management of natural resources, with native forests as the protagonist of this transformation toward a greener and more sustainable future.
