Investment in New Sawmill Will Boost Local Economy in La Unión
- With an investment of 72 million dollars, ForAction Chili SpA announces the construction of a sawmill in La Aguada, promising employment and development for the Los Ríos Region.
The Los Ríos Region is preparing for a significant economic and labor boost with the confirmation of a 72-million-dollar investment by the company ForAction Chili SpA, backed by North American capital, for the construction of a sawmill in the La Aguada sector of La Unión.
This project, named "Sawmill, Drying, and Remanufacturing of Wood for Export," not only promises to strengthen the local timber industry but also to generate over 400 direct jobs.
The general manager of ForAction Chili SpA, Marcelo Sáez, reported that the company has already received the necessary authorization to begin construction, which includes earthworks and the installation of warehouses. The first phase of the project, covering wood sawing and drying, will involve an initial investment of 55 million dollars. The second phase, dedicated to remanufacturing, has been moved forward to 2025 with an additional investment of 17 million dollars, instead of 2027 as originally planned.
The project will span a 25-hectare plot, where approximately three hectares of warehouses will be built, along with spaces for wood yards, truck loading areas, silos, dining services, and lodging for executives and administrative staff. Additionally, the sawmill is expected to have a positive impact on traffic along Route 5 South.
Local and regional authorities have played a key role in supporting and fast-tracking the project's approval. The mayor of La Unión, Andrés Reinoso, expressed his satisfaction with the realization of such a substantial investment in the municipality, highlighting job creation and the trust placed by foreign capital in the region. Meanwhile, the mayor of Paillaco, Miguel Ángel Carrasco, emphasized the project's importance for the locality of Pichirropulli and the region as a whole.
Regional Governor Luis Cuvertino and Presidential Delegate Jorge Alvial also welcomed the news enthusiastically, underscoring the environmental benefits thanks to the advanced technology to be implemented, as well as the creation of quality jobs and the economic development the investment will bring.
This project represents a significant opportunity for the Los Ríos Region, which will see an increase in job opportunities and a strengthening of its local economy, thanks to the vision and commitment of ForAction Chili SpA and the support of regional authorities.
