Conaf's Budget Will Remain Unchanged for Wildfire Season in Ñuble

The National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) will maintain its budget for the 2024 wildfire season in Ñuble, which reaches approximately $2 billion. This amount is the same as last year, which had already seen a significant increase following the intense wildfires of 2022, nearly doubling the resources allocated in previous years. Additionally, in the region, the Corporation has a wide range of resources ready and available to face the upcoming 2024-2025 summer, including various firefighting teams, helicopters, aircraft, and even specialized trucks.

The regional director of Conaf Ñuble, Juan Salvador, explained, "We will maintain the same budget as last year because, with the firefighting teams we had as Conaf, we performed extremely well, both ground crews and mechanized brigades, as well as aerial teams. Specifically, we had twenty brigades last year, which also included six aircraft—four regional and two national. The national ones consist of a helicopter, a medium and heavy-lift helicopter, a Super Puma, and a Chinook. As for the regional aircraft, which total four, there are two light helicopters and two planes (...)."

"Last year, we invested roughly in the region, and the budget reached two billion pesos, which also includes other expenses (...) We also cover all logistical aspects, such as food—three meals a day—snacks for the firefighters, combat rations, and infrastructure rentals. In this case, we rented a facility in Quirihue last year (...). The number of firefighters in Ñuble will remain between 180 and 200, as we performed well with that number last year. You also have to add all the brigades from private companies, which is another factor," he emphasized.
