  • In addition to the vests, two portable radios and boxes with deterrent elements were found, hidden among bushes near a hard-to-access stream, approximately one kilometer from where the ambush occurred.

In a significant turn for the investigation into the murder of three carabineros in Cañete, Biobío Region, prosecutor Roberto Garrido reported the recent discovery of bulletproof vests and other items belonging to the victims. The objects were found in the Nicolás Calbullanca community, about 30 kilometers from the attack site.

During Thursday night, Investigative Police officers located the vests of Carlos Cisterna, Sergio Arévalo, and Misael Vidal, who were ambushed in April of this year. The officers were shot and their bodies incinerated in the patrol truck they were traveling in.

In addition to the vests, two portable radios and boxes with deterrent elements were found, hidden among bushes near a hard-to-access stream, approximately one kilometer from where the ambush occurred.

Prosecutor Garrido emphasized that locating these items was possible thanks to the cooperation of the local community. Despite progress in the investigation, the carabineros' weapons and ammunition, including Uzi submachine guns, have not yet been recovered.

The Labocar of Biobío Carabineros and OS9 personnel are working at the discovery site, alongside a multidisciplinary team led by the regional prosecutor of Araucanía, Roberto Garrido. It has been confirmed that the vests match those worn by the murdered officers, and one of them shows signs of attempted destruction, possibly burns.

Undersecretary of the Interior Manuel Monsalve expressed his appreciation for the progress in the investigation, which he hopes will fully clarify the case and establish the corresponding criminal responsibilities. Brothers Felipe and Yeferson Antihuén, along with Nicolás Rivas, are in preventive detention accused of the triple homicide, while Tomás Antihuén remains at large. According to prosecutor Garrido, there is no indication he has left the country.

This discovery represents an important step in resolving a case that has shocked public opinion and highlighted security challenges in the region.
