La Araucanía: 6 people arrested for intentionally causing fires this summer season
So far this summer season, six people have been arrested in the La Araucanía region for intentionally causing fires.
In this context, regional authorities are coordinating actions to address the extreme temperatures forecast for this weekend.
Temperatures in communes of the Malleco province, especially in Angol and Renaico, are expected to reach 36 degrees Celsius this Sunday, accompanied by winds.
Although this will be the peak, temperatures above 30 degrees will be recorded throughout the weekend across much of the region.
Therefore, in addition to coordinating efforts with all institutions to prevent forest fires, the presidential delegate of La Araucanía, Eduardo Abdala, emphasized that special attention is being paid to tracking the causes of these incidents.
He also confirmed that, to date, six people have been arrested for starting fires.
The authority noted that these crimes have been detected both in flagrante delicto and through third-party reports, and are concentrated in the Malleco province.
The probability of forest fires will be very high this weekend, said the regional director of Conaf, María Teresa Huentequeo. Although some communes are at higher risk, the threat affects the entire region.
Huentequeo added that 29 Conaf brigades are already active, including night, evening, and ground infantry teams.
Additionally, a series of measures have been taken. The agricultural sector has been called to maintain a work stoppage, and the forestry and rural sectors, especially those working with tools like brush cutters and other equipment, have been urged to take extreme precautions.
It should be noted that controlled burns are completely prohibited until further notice.
Along the same lines, all national parks and reserves in La Araucanía have been closed, so those who have already purchased tickets can return them.
It should be clarified that there are three active alerts in La Araucanía: an early preventive alert for forest fires, an early preventive alert for Pucón due to the Ironman mass event, and a yellow alert for the Malleco province.
