As has become customary every summer, wildfires threaten the area, making the work of firefighters and firefighting teams crucial to protecting lives and natural resources. Aware of these needs, Los Angeles volunteers have created a space to collect supplies and provide logistical and moral support to emergency teams.

This is a collection center located at Luis Cruz Martínez 56 Street in Villa Ignacio Carrera Pinto (eastern area of the provincial capital city), where the local community generously contributes to aid campaigns.

From bottled water and non-perishable food to fruits and basic items like masks and hygiene products, the donations are extremely useful for the exhausting shifts of those battling the flames.

This year is no exception, and the volunteers hope to once again have the support of neighbors to continue this important work.

"We know wildfires are a reality that affects our region every summer. That’s why we call on all Los Angeles residents to contribute and be part of this chain of solidarity. Every donation counts and goes directly to those who need it most," stated the organization.

Since its creation in 2014, the Los Angeles Volunteers group, led by its founder and director Marylen Ramos Labrín, has been a pillar of support during emergencies and crises. The nonprofit organization emerged as a solidarity response to the devastating Valparaíso fire and has continued its altruistic work for over a decade.

"It all started with a call for young volunteers after the fire in the hills of Valparaíso," Ramos recalls. "We never imagined the community’s response. We filled the former boarding school with donations and traveled to deliver aid and assist in debris removal."

COMMITMENT TO FIREFIGHTERS

From its early days, the group established a close bond with the Fifth Fire Company of Los Angeles. "We sponsor the company by bringing mineral water, sports drinks, cereal bars, and masks. If the aid is substantial, we also distribute it to other companies, including teams that come from other cities," Ramos explained.

Currently, Los Angeles Volunteers is focused on collecting essential supplies for firefighters during January and February. "The heat and fires severely affect them. They need hydration and community support to keep responding to emergencies," the founder detailed.

The collection center accepts contributions such as water, sports drinks, fruits, and cereal bars. Additionally, those who wish to collaborate can contact the WhatsApp number +569 84199601.

SPIRIT OF SOLIDARITY

Over 11 years, the group has faced multiple challenges, yet always with the same motivation: serving the community. "Volunteers change—some leave due to work or studies—but the spirit of helping remains intact," Ramos emphasized.

This year, the organization seeks to formalize its legal structure to receive financial support, enabling them to continue their work, including purchasing diapers and food for those in need.

"Our commitment is unwavering, and we hope more people will join this cause to keep building a more supportive society," she concluded.

In times when heat and wildfires are constant, Los Angeles Volunteers once again stand as a symbol of hope and community unity, reminding us that solidarity is the best tool against adversity.
