Proceedings Begin for Recent Forest Fire in Los Álamos: Candles Found on Affected Property
The PDI (Investigative Police) has initiated proceedings regarding the forest fire that affected the commune of Los Álamos in the province of Arauco, Bío Bío region.
Amid alerts for high temperatures and forest fires, a new blaze was recorded over the past weekend, once again impacting the aforementioned commune.
According to reports, eight fire hotspots were detected, and the discovery of candles on the affected property suggests intentionality.
For this reason, the Presidential Delegate in Bío Bío, Eduardo Pacheco, condemned the incident and stated that if it was intentional, the perpetrators will be pursued.
Meanwhile, the PDI is carrying out the proceedings, as detailed by Prefect Raúl Arancibia, head of the Concepción Provincial Prefecture. Three special police teams are working during the summer season.
The president of the Association of Municipalities in Bío Bío, Rabindranath Acuña, supported Corma's request—which called for a prosecutor dedicated exclusively to these cases—and also urged increased military patrols.
Finally, as of now and according to the latest Conaf report, 461 forest fires have been recorded in the region.
