Yesterday, under the instructions of the Local Prosecutor's Office of Osorno, a team from the PDI of Osorno and Puerto Montt, along with the Criminalistics Laboratory, traveled to the Huitrapulli area to work on the forest fire named "Cordillera 5," in the commune of San Juan de la Costa.

This emergency is one of five recorded this year in the commune. Thanks to the joint efforts of firefighters, CONAF brigades, and private individuals, the fire was successfully controlled.

The prefect of the PDI in Osorno, Katherine Vásquez, arrived at the scene along with the police brigade personnel investigating the incident. She stated, "There is an ongoing investigation for the crime of arson, which occurred on Saturday in this sector. Additionally, we are conducting forensic examinations with the officials from the Criminalistics Laboratory," she detailed.

Meanwhile, the chief prosecutor of Osorno, María Angélica de Miguel, reported that the fire consumed over 10 hectares of vegetation.

"We attended the scene alongside the Investigative Police, specifically the Criminal Investigations Brigade and the Criminalistics Laboratory, as well as CONAF personnel. We conducted a tour of the affected area and various forensic examinations to determine whether third parties were involved in this fire or if it was caused spontaneously or by natural phenomena," stated the representative of the Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the case.

During the inspection carried out by the authorities, the destruction of forestry machinery was confirmed, which had reportedly been caught in the flames. According to reports, this equipment had been moved to the area to support fire control efforts but suffered a mechanical failure that prevented its removal, leaving it exposed to the fire.

The provincial delegation confirmed the loss of the equipment and stated that the incident had been reported the previous day. However, third-party involvement in the incident was ruled out.
