Prosecutor's Office and PDI Investigate Forest Fire That Left Three Firefighters Dead in Los Sauces

So far, the Moncoles forest fire near the town of Villa Trintre, in the commune of Los Sauces, La Araucanía region, has left a total of one thousand hectares destroyed and three firefighters dead.

The deceased firefighters, who belonged to the company Servicios Forestales Nacimiento (Serfonac), were identified as Duban Alejandro Ignacio Olate Farías, 22 years old; José Luis Quezada Barra, 44 years old; and Cristián Alexis Guerra Acuña, 43 years old.

The causes of the incident that led to their deaths are now being investigated by the Prosecutor's Office with the help of the Environmental Crimes Investigation Brigade (Bidema) of the PDI. This was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Regional Prosecutor's Office, Nely Marabolí.

Problems Caused by the Forest Fire in Los Sauces

Among the issues caused by the rapid spread of the flames is the proper evacuation of residents. This was stated by the mayor of Los Sauces, Víctor Hugo González, who said they will request support from Carabineros and the Army if necessary.

Finally, it is worth noting that the fire, which claimed three lives, also impacted the Wood Corporation (Corma). The president of the organization, Antonio Soto, said he hopes the investigations will determine whether the fire was accidental or intentional.
