44,000-liter capacity is the key self-supporting pool to combat fires in Itata

The National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) arranged the installation of a self-supporting pool with a capacity of 44,000 liters in the La Horca sector of the Quirihue commune, to provide water reserves for fighting forest fires.

This is a flexible and open container that will be managed by the Quirihue Fire Department, with the aim of speeding up supply processes for fire trucks, tankers, and helicopters involved in emergencies caused by fires declared in the area, which suffers from a shortage of water extraction points despite its demographic growth.

The provincial presidential delegate of Itata, Mario Cruces Núñez, commented that "this pool will help combat forest fires that may arise in the area, so we are very pleased because this is part of the resources allocated nationally by the State—156 billion pesos—that are being directed toward actions like this in prevention and firefighting."

The regional director of Conaf Ñuble, Juan Salvador Ramírez, explained that "this pool, with an investment of five million pesos, facilitates water supply for emergencies in an area with high vegetative presence, including native species, plantations, and crops, but which suffers from marked water scarcity. Now, with this self-supporting container already installed, we have a new resource for more direct attacks."

The mayor of Quirihue, Eduardo Redlich Mardones, thanked "the result of this collaborative alliance between Conaf and the Fire Department, with the support of the Provincial Presidential Delegation and the municipality, as well as the willingness of the neighbor who provided the land, since the installation of this pool will improve response times in fighting forest fires."
