A man was arrested for timber theft and operating an illegal logging operation in Valdivia, Los Ríos region.

The Criminal Investigation Brigade of the PDI moved to the Calfuco property owned by Forestal Arauco, located in the Cutipay Alto sector of the regional capital.

This was due to a group of people extracting timber at the site, running an illegal logging operation where they cut down trees and later loaded them onto a truck with the help of oxen.

Upon the arrival of the police, the individuals transporting the timber fled into the vegetation, abandoning the animals.

However, one of the men in the group, who was the owner of the truck, was arrested for the crime of timber theft, as stated by Deputy Prefect Cristian Muñoz.

Additionally, the officer reported that after the arrest, they seized a Mercedes Benz truck, 5 logs of radiata pine measuring 4 meters in length, and 30 felled trees within the property, along with sawn and stockpiled timber ready for transport, amounting to an estimated value of 7.5 million pesos.

It should be noted that the detainee was placed at the disposal of the Valdivia Guarantee Court.
