National Operations Centers Meeting Coordinates Against Forest Fires in Biobío

In the Biobío Region, the National Operations Centers Meeting took place, bringing together representatives from the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf), Chile's Fire Department, and the Chilean Wood Corporation (Corma), with the goal of strengthening coordination and response protocols against forest fires.

The acting director of Conaf Biobío, Pablo Gallardo, emphasized that this meeting "allows institutions to share information delivery protocols, monitoring, and coordination of aerial operations, which translates into better preparedness when facing forest fires."

From Chile's Fire Department, the National Operational Focal Point, Diego Caruezo, highlighted the importance of inter-institutional coordination. "For us at Chile's Fire Department, it is extremely important. We have only been involved in forest fires for a couple of years, learning from both Conaf and Corma. These meetings allow us to coordinate, train, and participate in decision-making to address emergencies more efficiently," he stated.

Representing Corma, María Soledad Reyes, Head of Sustainable Ecosystems, valued the initiative as a key space for sharing lessons learned and strengthening collaboration among stakeholders involved in fire detection and monitoring.

The activity is part of the preparations for the upcoming forest fire season, where early coordination, timely information sharing, and cooperation between public and private organizations are consolidated as essential factors to protect lives, homes, and ecosystems across the country.
