PDI Operation Leaves One Arrested and Recovers Wood in Valdivia
In a successful operation, detectives from the Wood Theft Investigation Team of the Criminal Investigation Brigade (Bicrim) of the Investigative Police (PDI) in Valdivia managed to arrest an individual involved in the illegal theft of wood. The subject was caught in the act while logging and extracting radiata pine trees from a property in the Piedra Blanca sector, Valdivia municipality.
Commissioner Gerardo Lillo of Bicrim Valdivia reported that the arrest occurred after receiving a complaint about the crime of wood theft. The specialized team acted quickly, surprising the man in the midst of illicit activity. The detainee, whose identity has not been disclosed, did not possess the necessary authorization for the logging and extraction of the trees.
During the operation, 25 already felled and stockpiled pine trees, 2 cubic meters of pine wood ready for transport on a cart, a chainsaw, and two oxen used for moving the wood were seized. The total value of the recovered items exceeds five million pesos, highlighting the magnitude of the crime and its economic impact on the property owners and the environment.
The PDI's swift response to the complaint reflects the authorities' commitment to protecting natural resources and private property. The detainee will be brought before the courts to face corresponding charges for wood theft, a crime that undermines the forest heritage and is pursued with particular interest in the region.
This case underscores the importance of surveillance and citizen reporting in the fight against environmental crimes. Collaboration between the community and security forces is essential to preserve natural resources and ensure that logging activities are conducted within the established legal framework.
