Ñuble: Rural Deployment to be Strengthened During Wildfire Season

Recently, the Minister of Agriculture, Ignacia Fernández, launched in Quirihue the 2025-2026 Action Plan for the Prevention, Mitigation, and Control of Forest Fires for the region, which aims to strengthen the capacity for prevention and response to wildfires.

In that context, the Ñuble Carabineros will enhance deployment in the territory, especially in rural and fire-vulnerable areas, through specialized teams. "We will have a strengthening of deployment in the territory, especially in rural and fire-vulnerable areas, through specialized teams such as the Forest Patrol and the Rural Tactical Investigation Patrol, and territorial teams along with the MICC Patrols, which will work on four action focuses, from prevention, enforcement, emergency, and investigation," added the Head of Operations of the Carabineros.

The Ñuble Carabineros specified that the police teams have already begun an initial informational and educational phase, moving into rural communities, schools, fairs, and other community spaces to disseminate current regulations, explain the risks of unauthorized fire use, and propose concrete prevention actions, such as cleaning vacant lots, clearing roadside weeds, trimming tree foliage, among other aspects.

Additionally, the uniformed police added that in a second operational and enforcement focus, through patrols and controls in risk areas, Carabineros will verify compliance with restrictive measures imposed by the authority during alert periods, supervise agricultural activities to detect illegal burns or negligent actions that could lead to disasters. "This active surveillance work allows anticipating emergencies and acting quickly when dangerous situations are identified," stated Colonel Salas, who added that in the event of a declared forest fire, as a third action focus, Carabineros will deploy their teams in a support phase to safeguard affected sectors, facilitate the movement of emergency teams through traffic services, evacuate people and animals when the situation requires, and cooperate in the protection of homes and sensitive areas, in coordination with Senapred, Conaf, and Firefighters.
