Concepción Shields Itself Against Fire: Forest Fire Prevention Campaign Launched

Faced with the growing threat of forest fires, the Municipality of Concepción has launched its prevention campaign for the 2025-2026 season.

The launch, held at the Cecosf Chaimávida, was attended by the Disaster Risk Management Directorate (DGRD), Conaf, Senapred, Carabineros, PDI, and Community Brigades, who joined forces to present a plan that not only aims to prevent but also strengthen the response to potential emergencies.

Mayor Héctor Muñoz Uribe emphasized the importance of inter-institutional and community collaboration in these preventive efforts. "We have increased patrols, and the idea is to maintain active coordination to prevent fires through collaborative and ongoing work," he stated.

Andrea Aravena Herrera, acting director of Senapred Biobío, highlighted the relevance of preventive work in the context of the climate crisis. "Fires are occurring much earlier than expected, therefore it is very important to be prepared in advance," she commented.

The campaign includes a series of educational, preventive, and inter-institutional coordination actions. Training sessions and workshops with the community, updates on risk zones, and drills will be conducted. The municipality has resources such as trucks and forestry equipment to carry out these tasks.

Liliana Valenzuela Bernal, from the Las Mercedes Agricultural and Residential Community Organization, appreciated the joint effort and the importance of keeping surroundings clean and being prepared.

To date, over 17,000 m² in Concepción have been treated with firebreaks and cleaning in high-risk sectors, demonstrating the city's commitment to forest fire prevention.
