Arrested for Illegal Timber Transport and Assault on Carabineros in Ercilla
During a routine inspection, Carabineros officers encountered a violent incident after stopping a truck driver transporting timber without the corresponding legal documentation. The event, which took place in the Pidima area, escalated when the driver assaulted the officers and was supported by other individuals who came to his defense.
The situation required requesting support from Public Order Control personnel and the involvement of Army officials to secure the route. Additionally, aerial surveillance of the perimeter was implemented using a Camcopter UAV drone to monitor the scene.
As a result of the operation, three individuals were arrested: the driver of the cargo vehicle, an individual who came to his support, and a third subject who was near the Carabineros station in Ercilla. The latter was identified by an official as the perpetrator of previous death threats against police personnel.
In addition to the arrests, the truck carrying the timber logs and a pickup truck associated with the events were seized. This incident highlights the challenges authorities face in combating the illegal transport of natural resources and the violence associated with these illicit activities.
Authorities emphasize the importance of citizen collaboration and reporting suspicious activities to prevent and combat crimes that threaten natural heritage and the safety of officials tasked with protecting it.
The detainees will be placed at the disposal of the judiciary to continue with relevant investigations and determine corresponding sanctions.
