Two Arrests and Seized Weapons Confirmed Following Operation for Arson Attack in Contulmo
The number of detainees has risen to two following the arson attack that occurred on Wednesday morning in Contulmo, Bío Bío region.
According to Radio Bío Bío, they are two Mapuche community members, arrested by the Navy and Carabineros after operations deployed throughout the area and the southern sector of Cañete.
During the procedure that led to the arrest of the individuals, short and long weapons were seized.
It should be recalled that in the afternoon, two trucks that had been stolen during the attack on the Arauco forestry estate, specifically the El Peral farm, were recovered.
Around 19:00 hours, the arrest of a single individual was reported during the operation led by the National Defense Headquarters in coordination with the Prosecutor's Office and other institutions, such as the Government itself. However, it had not been confirmed whether he was directly related to the crime.
The attack, allegedly carried out by a group of 10 to 12 armed, hooded individuals, resulted in four pieces of machinery and five vehicles burned. At the scene, a statement claiming responsibility from the Weichan Auka Mapu (WAM) was found.
