Dr. Jeannette Vera, an academic from the Department of Basic Sciences at the University of Bío-Bío (UBB), participated in the Third Extended Session of the REDD+ Group of the Ñuble Region, organized by the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf). The activity is part of climate change mitigation actions and the restoration of degraded ecosystems, with support from the Transfer and Licensing Office (OTL-UBB).

During the meeting, the researcher presented the paper "From Ashes to Life: The Role of Soil Microorganisms in Ecosystem Recovery After Fires," where she discussed advances in the use of biotechnological and ecological strategies to restore soil fertility and biodiversity in areas affected by forest fires.

Dr. Vera's participation aimed to strengthen ties between university research and public policies, fostering knowledge exchange among academia, the state, and local stakeholders.

According to Roxana Herrera, a technology manager at OTL-UBB in Ñuble, this collaboration helps transfer results from applied research to concrete environmental restoration initiatives, in line with the guidelines of the National Strategy on Climate Change and Vegetation Resources (ENCCRV).

The UBB's Deputy Director of Innovation, Dr. Guillermo Petzold, emphasized that this participation "reaffirms the institutional commitment to transferring scientific knowledge for the benefit of the territory," consolidating the University's role as a reference in technological and sustainable solutions to climate and environmental challenges.

Based on this experience, UBB will continue collaborating with Conaf and other institutions in the technical roundtables of the REDD+ Group, promoting pilot soil restoration projects and expanding its contribution to the sustainable development of the Ñuble Region.
