Brigade Members Train in Machinery to Combat Forest Fires in Biobío

The National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) has taken a significant step in the fight against forest fires by completing a training workshop on the use of heavy machinery in fire control operations. The event, led by Spanish expert Juan Bautista García Ejido, focused on sharing advanced knowledge and practices developed in Europe to enhance efficiency and safety in extinguishing large-scale fires.

During the session, Conaf brigade members, hailing from various regions of Chile, immersed themselves in theoretical and practical modules covering everything from operational fundamentals to the integration of new technologies in firefighting. The use of crawler tractors, skidders, and fire engines was examined in detail, providing participants with essential tools to confront the growing challenges of forest fires in the context of climate change.

The acting regional director of Conaf Biobío, Pablo Gajardo, highlighted the importance of these training sessions to strengthen institutional preparedness and response to forest emergencies. The incorporation of heavy machinery and cutting-edge technology is key to improving on-the-ground effectiveness and protecting the lives of brigade members.

Cristian Vergara, head of the Punta Arenas Helitransported Brigade, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the workshop, emphasizing that the experience exceeded his expectations and provided him with valuable knowledge to apply in his work.

This technical exchange not only represents an advancement in CONAF's preparedness for forest fires but also strengthens international cooperation and the joint development of strategies for a safer and more sustainable future.
