The Futuro Madera Network condemns in the most categorical terms the new and severe wave of violence recorded in the Biobío and La Araucanía Regions, which resulted in regrettable arson attacks in less than 72 hours in the municipalities of Contulmo, Vilcún, Carahue, and Cunco.

The persistence of these attacks demonstrates that terrorist violence remains firmly rooted in the southern macro-zone. This reality directly impacts the well-being and security of both families and workers across all sectors, exacerbating the crisis facing the forestry industry.

Economic impact and investment withdrawal

The persistence of this violence is causing unsustainable patrimonial damage to the sector. According to records from the guilds that make up the Network:

● Historical losses: from 2014 to date, 516 attacks have been recorded, totaling economic losses of over $212 billion.

● 2025 losses: only in 2025 so far, losses from attacks on contractors are estimated at over $8 billion.

Futuro Madera emphasizes that the threat to family safety, destruction of machinery, and violation of work inhibit investment and generate a withdrawal process in the forestry sector, a key industry for the country's development and the decarbonization of the economy.

Demand for security, legislation, and effective presence

From Futuro Madera, we urgently call on the Government and Congress to take measures to end the climate of insecurity and fear:

1. Effective state presence and preventive strategy: an effective state presence in the territory and a preventive, proportional, and sustained strategy over time are required. This becomes especially relevant with the approaching fire season, where intentionality has been one of the main causes of incidents.

2. Legislative urgency: it is imperative that Congress advance the necessary bills to provide effective tools to law enforcement and security forces to control violent groups and guarantee the Rule of Law.

3. Preventive measures: evaluate the implementation of curfews in critical zones and dates and the establishment of permanent random controls on secondary roads to prevent the movement of violent groups.

We reiterate that the contribution of the forestry sector to Chile's development and employment is fundamental, but this can only materialize in an environment of peace, security, and unrestricted respect for the Rule of Law.

Futuro Madera is composed of the Chilean Biomass Association (AchBiom), the Association of Forestry Contractors (Acoforag), the Chilean Guild Association of Native Forest Owners (Aprobosque), the College of Forestry Engineers of Chile (Cifag), the Chilean Wood Corporation (Corma), and the Small and Medium-Sized Wood Industries (Pymemad).
