In the darkness of the early morning, a violent arson attack shook the tranquility of Route 182 in the La Araucanía Region.

Around 05:50 hours, near kilometer 22, a truck and a van were consumed by flames after the action of unknown armed individuals who intercepted and threatened the driver of the cargo vehicle. The incident led to the closure of the route, affecting the normal flow of traffic and marking a new episode of violence in the area.

Colonel Manuel Aravena, prefect of the Malleco Carabineros Prefecture, detailed that the attack was perpetrated by individuals who, after forcing the driver to abandon his truck, proceeded to set the cabin on fire with accelerating liquids. Additionally, one of the vans used by the attackers, which was later also set on fire, had a theft warrant.

The Carabineros commissioner in Angol, Commander Ricardo Sepúlveda, confirmed that the damaged van was found obstructing the highway.

Authorities have launched an investigation to find those responsible for this criminal act that not only puts human lives at risk but also affects connectivity and the local economy. This event adds to a series of similar attacks that have affected the region recently, generating a climate of uncertainty and demanding an effective response from security forces and the government.

The route was temporarily closed while firefighting efforts and corresponding investigations were carried out. At the time of writing this note, no arrests or injuries have been reported, but the situation has reignited the debate about security in La Araucanía and the necessary measures to protect citizens and their property.
