Preventive Prison for Two Defendants Linked to WAM for Attack in Contulmo
The two individuals arrested last Wednesday, accused of being involved in the attack in Contulmo, Bío Bío region, which was claimed by the Weichan Auka Mapu (WAM), have been placed in preventive prison.
After an extensive hearing at the Cañete Guarantee Court, the Public Ministry formally charged the individuals and invoked offenses under the anti-terrorist law, including arson, robbery with violence and intimidation, receiving stolen goods, carrying a weapon, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
It should be noted that these individuals were detained by the Armed Forces near Lleu Lleu Lake, following a police pursuit in conjunction with the Carabineros' COP.
In this regard, short and long weapons were seized. Previously, two trucks that had been stolen during the attack were recovered.
Recall that in the arson attack, which occurred on the morning of November 12, a group of 10 to 12 hooded individuals burned at least 10 vehicles on an Arauco forestry property, including trucks, a van, and machinery.
At the scene, the antisocial individuals threatened workers and also teachers who were passing by on a road while they carried out this attack in Contulmo.
After being formally charged this Monday, the Cañete Guarantee Court accepted the Prosecutor's request and ordered the maximum precautionary measure against the two detained individuals. Additionally, it set a 10-month investigation period for the case, and the defendants will be transferred to the Temuco Penitentiary Compliance Center (CCP) in the La Araucanía region.
