Panguipulli Neighbors Awarded for Protecting Native Forest

In an event highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and responsible natural resource management, 37 users of the Panguipulli Forest Extension Program received recognition for their dedication to caring for the native forest.

Over the past five years, these citizens have implemented sustainable practices on their properties, enabling them to access benefits from the Native Forest Law and receive certification from the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf).

The ceremony, which took place in the Panguipulli municipality itself, not only served to honor neighbors committed to the environment but also to celebrate 30 years of collaboration between Conaf and the Panguipulli Municipality. This partnership has been key in promoting sustainable use and conservation of local ecosystems.

Panguipulli's native forest is recognized for its beauty and ecological, sociocultural, and economic value. Proper management of these forests ensures the continuity of vital ecosystem services for the well-being of both current and future generations. The Forest Extension Program, with its specialized technical team, has been fundamental in advising and supporting families and property owners in the municipality, promoting forest management that respects and protects the natural environment.

The ceremony was attended by important figures such as Arnoldo Shibar, Regional Director of Conaf Los Ríos; Rodrigo Valdivia Orias, Mayor of Panguipulli; and Councilors Patricia Cariman and Mario Aburto. All emphasized the importance of recognizing citizens who, with foresight and environmental responsibility, become custodians of natural heritage.

Panguipulli thus positions itself as an example of commitment to sustainability, environmental education, and collaboration with rural communities, seeking development that harmonizes the relationship between humans and nature.
