Prosecutor's Office Investigates Causes of Devastating Fire in Constitución
The Regional Prosecutor's Office of Maule has launched an investigation to clarify the causes of the forest fire ravaging the San Antonio area, in the commune of Constitución.
Given the magnitude of the disaster and the possibility of human intervention, the Public Prosecutor's Office has tasked the Carabineros Forensic Laboratory (Labocar) and the Criminal Investigation Brigade (Bicrim) of the Maule PDI with conducting technical and scientific examinations in the affected area.
The work of these specialized teams is being carried out simultaneously with the fire containment efforts, which have led to a Red Alert being declared for the commune. The emergency has mobilized a considerable deployment of resources, and authorities are focused on both combating the flames and preventing further damage to the community and the ecosystem.
The judicial investigation's main objective is to gather objective information and preserve evidence to determine how the fire started. Although it is still premature to discuss liabilities, the process could eventually point to those responsible if it is discovered that third parties were involved in the origin of the fire.
The community of Constitución and the surrounding areas remain on alert as investigations are awaited to shed light on this unfortunate event, and work continues tirelessly to mitigate the consequences of the fire.
