Wave of Violence in Ercilla: House and Truck Burned in Attacks
In a concerning episode of rural violence, the commune of Ercilla, in the province of Malleco, witnessed two arson attacks that resulted in the destruction of infrastructure and vehicles.
The first incident occurred in the town of Pidima, where a house, a warehouse, and a pickup truck were consumed by flames. The second attack, which happened near Route 5 South, involved the burning of a forestry truck.
The driver of the forestry truck reported that while he was parked, he was approached by two armed individuals who forced him to abandon the vehicle before setting it on fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either incident.
Inspector Sebastián Lara of the Bipe Angol of the Chilean Investigative Police reported that they have concluded work at the site of the first attack and that the results of the forensic examinations will be delivered to the First Proceedings Prosecutor's Office of the La Araucanía Region.
Deputy Miguel Mellado has expressed his criticism of the Government, urging not to abandon the fight against terrorism in the region, despite the results of the recent presidential elections.
Investigations into both attacks are underway, and so far, no arrests have been made in connection with the incidents.
