Army Prepares to Combat Forest Fires in Osorno and La Unión
In a show of commitment and preparedness, the personnel of the No. 9 "Arauco" Mountain Detachment, located in Osorno and La Unión, have successfully completed their annual training, becoming a fundamental pillar in the fight against forest fires in Chile.
The instruction, led by Conaf experts, focused on ensuring that the BRIFEs are ready to act efficiently in any emergency.
Second Lieutenant Mauricio Muñoz, from the No. 4 "Arauco" Engineers Battalion, highlighted the importance of the training: "The training provides us with technical criteria we must master to support Conaf when a fire becomes a real threat." The training began with theoretical modules on fire dynamics and continued with field practices, where the personnel applied techniques for building firebreaks and using specialized tools.
Corporal Roberto González emphasized the relevance of the practical exercises: "Working in conditions similar to those we will face during a fire gives us the confidence to act quickly in the midst of danger." The conscript soldiers also valued the formative experience, with Byron Loncomilla N. and Juan Fuentealba S. emphasizing the confidence and the difference that proper handling of tools can make in real situations.
The BRIFEs are essential in establishing control lines, removing vegetative material, and protecting infrastructure, complementing the work of frontline firefighters and contributing to safer conditions for the direct combat of fires. This training is part of Conaf's national planning, which seeks to strengthen emergency response capabilities in different regions.
With this training, the Army reaffirms its commitment to the "National Emergency and Civil Protection" mission, providing operational discipline and territorial support for the benefit of the population and the environment.
