In a proactive measure to face the summer season and its inherent forest fire risks, the Municipality of Calbuco and the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) have begun constructing firebreaks in rural areas of the commune. These preventive works, which include land clearing with heavy machinery, aim to protect communities and minimize the possibility of fire spread near inhabited zones.

The El Roble sector, frequently affected by fire emergencies in summer, is one of the first to benefit from these strategic actions. Leonel Morales, Director of Security and Emergencies for the Municipality of Calbuco, emphasized the relevance of these measures: "This work is fundamental to anticipate emergency situations and protect our communities, reinforcing a preventive strategy that prioritizes the safety of people and the territory."

Mayor Marcos Silva has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to the safety of residents. "We are carrying out important forest fire prevention work, using heavy machinery to execute preventive firebreaks on the edges of populated sectors, with the goal of safeguarding homes and family safety. This is a commitment made to the community, and today we are fulfilling it," Silva stated.

Gastón Mansilla, Conaf Operations Manager, highlighted that these tasks are part of the preventive plan developed by the institution and emphasized the importance of coordination with the municipality to effectively reduce risk and strengthen the protection of inhabited areas.

The Municipality of Calbuco has called on the community to actively collaborate with prevention measures and has requested residents and visitors to take an active role in maintaining everyone's safety.
