Arauco Forest Brigade Escapes from Hooded Armed Individuals in Curanilahue
In an incident that highlights the growing concern for the safety of forestry workers, the night brigade BA-729 of the company Arauco was intimidated by a group of six hooded individuals armed with sticks and iron bars.
The event took place near the Los Ríos Reserve in Curanilahue, Bío Bío region, at approximately 4:30 AM this Thursday.
The brigade members, who were traveling in a vehicle, were taken by surprise when the aggressors positioned themselves in front of and alongside their means of transport. The objective of the hooded individuals was clear: to intimidate the personnel and force the vehicle to stop. However, the quick reaction of the workers allowed them to withdraw from the area before the situation escalated to physical violence.
Fortunately, this encounter did not result in injuries to any of the brigade members or damage to their equipment. Following the incident, the company Arauco filed a complaint with the Carabineros, who are already investigating the event to identify those responsible and clarify their motivations.
This type of incident not only puts the physical integrity of the workers at risk but also interrupts the conservation and forest protection work that is vital for maintaining the region's ecosystems.
The community of Curanilahue and local authorities have expressed their concern about these acts of intimidation and reiterate their call to guarantee the safety of all workers operating in remote and potentially dangerous areas.
