The International Labour Organization (ILO) has accepted a claim from Forestry Contractors against the State for non-compliance regarding safety and health in the face of arson attacks in the Southern Macrozone.

The workers assert that the Executive branch has not provided the necessary security conditions related to the violent incidents in parts of the Bío Bío and La Araucanía regions.

Recall that in October 2022, the Forestry Contractors' Trade Association (Acoforag) filed a claim with the ILO, and again in 2025, which has now been accepted.

René Muñoz, president of Acoforag, stated that the ILO granted a conciliation process with a 6-month deadline for resolution. "We need the State to guarantee security and to work in a safe environment for forestry workers. We are not seeking anything else. There is no forestry country in the world that experiences what happens here in Chile, where we are attacked, workers are kidnapped, our equipment is burned, and this has to end, once and for all. Therefore, we want a public security aspect to be incorporated into the national occupational safety and health policy," he affirmed.

They demand that the State guarantee forestry workers a safe environment to protect life and the work environment.

In the ILO document, they indicate that they have notified the Chilean government to respond with its position and to move forward with the agreement.
