Constanza Arjona: Female Leadership in the World of Logistics and Corporate Organization
Constanza Arjona, a commercial engineer and corporate manager of People and Organization at CMPC, has built a diverse career in traditionally male-dominated sectors. She began her journey at the Ultramar group, where she worked for 11 years in the shipping and port industry, collaborating with sectors such as mining, chemicals, oil, and forestry. “I never imagined working in these types of industries, but I fell in love with the dynamism and opportunities they offered,” she comments.
After a brief stint in consulting, she joined CMPC five years ago as International Logistics Manager, right at the start of the pandemic, facing the challenge of maintaining the supply chain amid a global crisis. Later, she led the supply chain area for pulp and wood, connecting directly with forestry operations and purchasing wood from small and medium-sized producers. “It was an enriching experience that allowed me to understand the heart of the business,” she notes.
In 2024, she took on the role of People and Organization Manager, applying her operational experience to align business needs with those of employees. “Understanding the different links in the value chain allows me to contribute a comprehensive and people-centered perspective,” she explains.
A Woman in a Male-Dominated Sector
The forestry industry remains male-dominated, but Arjona sees this as an opportunity to drive diversity. “Women bring a unique and complementary perspective. It’s not just about gender, but about diversity of thought and experience,” she states. She recalls that early in her career at Ultramar, there were prejudices, such as the belief that it was bad luck for women to board ships. However, those times are now behind her, and today she leads confidently in a more inclusive environment.
Married and a mother of two, she highlights shared family responsibilities as key to her professional growth. “My husband and I built a life project where both of us can grow professionally,” she says. Additionally, she values CMPC’s support in fostering an inclusive and flexible work environment.
Vision for the Future
Constanza Arjona exemplifies how leadership, adaptability, and diversity can transform industries. Her commitment to sustainability, inclusion, and people development positions her as a key leader in the Chilean forestry sector. “This is an industry full of possibilities, and it’s our responsibility to attract the best talent, regardless of gender, to build a more sustainable and equitable future,” she concludes.
